Serious Ponderings and Rantings about Guys I Like - Bucky Covington, Jimmy Wayne, Jason Michael Carroll etc.

Things that make you go HMMMMMMMMMM........(credit to Arsenio Hall for that)

Sooooooooooo I have "friends" here and there as we all do and we chitchat about this and that such as music we love etc. It just so happens that some of my "friends" are also involved in the music business so discussions can sometimes go beyond the "music" and into the "business" matters. I also have lots of friends that are fans and pick up on some of the "business" aspect of promoting their favorite artists. (You would not believe the things the fans do in the trenches to get their favorite artists pushed up the ladder to success -- no wonder some artists thank the fans).

There is a rumble in the trenches of fandom -- so I'll share some of the stuff I am hearing in different places. Besides my hearing this, these are my thoughts as well.

It seems to me that if a record label has a solid crowd-drawing, moneymaking, act on its roster, the label focuses mainly on that act -- the act gets most of the attention and promotion. (I do understand that is where the label's 'bread is buttered' so they invest for a big return).

Many (of course, including me) wonder why a record label would not use the opportunity to schedule some of their newer artists as the opening act for the Gigundo artist(s) on a tour. But looking around, that isn't happening very often.

In other words, hypothetically (hmmmm, hmmmm), if a label has -- let's just say...ummm Rascal Flatts or say Reba McIntrye, why aren't the opening acts on the Rascal Flatts' or Reba's tour from the same stable as the headliner? (I mean it could be a win/win situation here) Is it an unspoken rule or deal in N'ville that you have to have artists from different record labels on the tour?

Let's reflect on Motown. I remember little unknown label "Motown" and its shows with artists all on its label. The artists toured together and made a name for the label and reaped a bucklet-load of Benjamins (that's $100 bills for those that might not know). In other words, the label had different "profit centers" so to say, in each artist. Different artists have different fans, but if they are on tour together, they draw them all.

In fact, thinking of the American Idol Live tour, that is the hottest ticket around as far as concerts go. It is always sold out and the artists are all on the same "label" so to say. That concept sure has made a lot of Benjamins for 19 Entertainment.

Rascal Flatts has been a major draw for years and years. Why haven't their labelmates opened for them on tour? Thus, letting the label save money in promotion (because they promote several artists in the same ad blitz) and they are introducing their newer artists to a large audience (thereby increasing their fanbase and profits).

So, I just don't get it (and trust me, I am not alone here). We all know it is about the bottom line (again, the Benjamins), but if they allow several of their artists to tour together, it should be a winning combination. Do I make sense here? (I know this is a rumble among the fans - as well as how the labels seem to only be promoting the big guys and leaving the little guys in the dust). In some cases, if it weren't for the artists promoting themselves or the fans working on the street level, some artists would fall by the wayside quickly.

And -- another question -- why is it that when a CD contains several really good songs, that only two or so singles are released off that album? (There is lag time between production of artist's albums anyway) Why not release more than the two or so songs as singles? Is that also some unwritten rule?

Lastly, I have seen and I am sure that you have seen where on sites such as youtube.com, that a record label will pull a song off the internet due to copyright infringement. HELLO????? IS ANYBODY THINKING ABOUT THIS AT THE LABEL??? Why do you do that? People are promoting the songs, if you feel it is copyright infringement, use it to your advantage! Contact the poster and add a link for those that visit/listen to be able to download the song from that post. Fans are promoting for free, if you want to profit from it, use your brain!

And, (I know I said lastly, but this thought is related), when people attend concerts and are told by security NO PICTURES OR VIDEOS allowed. Again, IS ANYBODY INTELLIGENTLY THINKING ABOUT THIS?? The artist is losing valuable promotion that is being offered for free!! For every music video post on the internet, fans are drawn and new fans are made. Especially in the case of American Idol artists who would truly benefit by free fan promotion. (I personally have been asked to 'cease recording' at an American Idol concert).

So, with the music industry complaining of their loss of revenues etc, is anybody actually thinking outside the box? I hear the fans rumbling so maybe the fans should starts making some noise at the labels themselves. Just saying... (fyi.. I don't yell and I don't necessarily rant.. I'm just thinking out loud kinda)

Bucky Covington, and Jason Castro, and Jason Michael Carroll -- OH MY!

Well, some of my favorite guys have news all at the same time. Since I have been super busy and I have not been diligent on posting, I will fill you in on the news in this blog.

First, Bucky Covington's new single I Want My Life Back is beginning to be played on the radio. This song is going to be a hit -- I can feel it. Check Bucky out singing the new song for the first time at concert. Bucky's sophomore CD will be released in the next few months. Keep your eyes and ears open.

Jason Castro has found a home at Atlantic Records and working with Kara Dioguardi and one of the guys who works with the Jonas Brothers .. on one of his songs at least. Jason is planning to release his CD in June. If you haven't heard some of the new songs, search Youtube for his Garland or Texas A&M University (TAMU) concerts

Jason Michael Carroll's new CD Growing Up is Getting Old is being released on April 28. You can pre-order it and receive an autographed copy HERE

Jason Michael talks about his first single Where I'm From

Enjoy some Bucky Covington and Jason Castro

If you are in the snowstorm area -- enjoy :) It is beautiful and quiet -- unless you are traveling. But, it is still amazing that every snowflake is completely different than another.

Please take time to enjoy some Bucky Covington and Jason Castro while you are having your hot chocolate or hot tea. Go download Bucky's SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO DOWN from iTunes. AND, Don't forget, Jason Castro is gifting you with a FREE download of his version of WHITE CHRISTMAS at Amazon.com (if you are in the US) and Reverberation.com (if outside the States). It is a perfect time to listen to that song!! (and it's a great version)

I'll be traveling, so if you are reading this, I ask that you say a quick prayer for traveling mercies. I appreciate it.

If I HAD your phone number, I don't anymore. Please email it to me.

I'll catch ya on the flip side.

HUGS and blessings,
ME

Bucky Covington -- Hold A Woman (reduce the divorce rate)

Bucky Covington's tour is winding down, but he still has a few shows left before year end. He is busy working on his sophomore CD and I am sure it will be a winner if this song is a peek into its content.

Thank you to Danna Marie for posting this video of Hold A Woman from one of Bucky's recent venues in Indiana. Ummmm and btw, Miss Danna -- did you raid the bus? Am I correct in thinking you were wearing the same shirt that Bucky is wearing when you were in Myrtle Beach just a few weeks ago???

The key to a good song is the lyrics, so listen closely to the words -- GUYS TAKE NOTES!! (If you do, maybe we can reduce the divorce rate in this country)

Bucky Covington

I happened to find another video of the song at a benefit for St. Jude's Hospital (one of Bucky's favorite charities). You can hear the words a little better and you can get a little glimpse of Bucky's sense of humor -- love the little cricket noise he makes in the pre-song discussion -- listen for it LOL and I just love Terra :) Hey Girl! HUGS :)

Enjoy:

catch ya later :)

Goings On -- Bucky Covington, Jason Michael Carroll

December is always a slow month for tours it seems. Artists that spend so much of their time on the road actually get time to spend with family over the holidays. They also seem to spend time working on their next project.

Bucky Covington is working on his next release and we can't wait. He is again being produced by Mark Miller and I am sure they will turn out a quality project. Bucky's debut CD was produced by Mark and each song was worthy of being released as a single. The three songs that were released gave Bucky the honor of have three consecutive singles in the top ten. That's something to be proud of. His single "I'll Walk" is still on the charts. (Google it)

I am looking forward to Bucky's schedule for next year -- his shows are always worth attendance. Will I see you there?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jason Michael Carroll (JMC)(not to confuse the Jason's) has announced that he will be appearing at Cowboy's in Atlanta for New Years's Eve 2008. I welcomed 2008 at JMC's show last year and it was excellent -- he is a great performer.

Joining JMC for this performance will be his former lead guitarist, Trey Hill. Trey is a founding member of SonicFlood (Grammy winners) and has added his talents to many artists along the way. Currently, Trey is playing with Jessica Simpson. This New Year's Eve will be very special.

Jason's has had a string of hits as well and the most recent "Where I'm From" is working its way up the charts. Talk a listen -- you know how to google :)

Myrtle Beach and Bucky Covington

I had an awesome weekend this past week. I went to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina for Bucky Covington's concert at the House of Blues. (It was on his birthday) For those of you that do not know who Bucky Covington is, you should check him out. Bucky was the eighth top finalist on Season 5 of American Idol and parlayed that experience into a successful career in country music/southern rock (and has improved tremendously since his stint on AI). Now, don't let the word "country" turn you off if that isn't your bag -- you will be surprised to learn that country isn't what country was. (Did you know that Bon Jovi, Kid Rock, The Eagles, and Sebastian Bach of Skid Row are all now in that genre? Hey, even Snoop Dog and Bobby Brown have made country music in the last few years.)
Check, Check, Check it out :)

So, Bucky Covington has broken records and received awards already since his debut as a recording artist in 2007. Check out Bucky's myspace or search him on youtube. You should even check out his official site or his myspace for more info.

If Bucky is appearing in your area, you should get out of your comfort zone and actually take the opportunity to experience his show, you will leave the concert having the time of your life. Not only is he energetic and puts his heart and soul into each performance (and his band is awesome as well!), but Bucky will make sure to get you laughing and totally enjoying yourself. He may be a performer, but he is no put-on. Bucky is a genuine guy with no airs about him. What you see is what you get--someone you can relate to. (Ok, so I know you aren't supposed to end a sentence with a preposition, but this my blog, so there ya go)

Bucky and his band mates, which include his twin Rocky, blew the roof off the Myrtle Beach House of Blues on Saturday, November 8, 2008. This was the best performance of his that I have seen to date (trust me, I have seen MANY). Bucky was firing on all cylinders and the band was right there with him every inch of the way. The house was packed and, even though many people had never seen Bucky perform before or even knew who he was, he greatly impressed the crowd.

Keep your eyes and ears open for Bucky Covington. Besides his self-titled CD, he has a featured song on EA Sports' video game "NASCAR 08" and on the "Country Does Disney" CD. Take note, Bucky is also in the new Hannah Montana movie soon to be released. Do a little google search and you will be reading and watching for hours -- he is ALL over the internet.

Well, I hear my pillow calling my name so it's time to hit the sack.
So, g'night all.
