Bucky Covington, Jason Castro, Michael Castro, Jason Michael Carroll, Cole Degges

I didn't get a chance to post yet today and will try to do a little later. I don't usually post a lot of personal goings on, but just to get something up today, I will post a few personal pictures :)

I love people. I love friends and look forward to meeting those God puts in my path because I know He has a reason. I have had the opportunity to meet and speak with some special people (my opinion after doing a little heart-throscopy). I am Scots-Irish, German, and the other half is Italian. So I am a hugger and a kisser (Greet one another with a "holy kiss"). Here are some recent pictures.

Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth -- Provide Bibles for Our Military etc

Have you ever heard that the phrase "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth?" Well, it's acronym is BIBLE. Now, before you stop reading and close the page, I would love for you just to read a little bit longer.

Today's society has so many different views of the Bible in that many believe it is a book written by man (yet, they have really never even researched that conclusion) and other's believe that it is the Word of God, taken down by men, but inspired by God. I wholeheartedly believe the Bible is the Word of God and He has proven it to me personally and through scientific and archaeological research. How did you come to your conclusion as to what the Bible really is -- someone else's idea that you adopted or first hand research or experience?

I believe at the Bible says (and paraphrasing)...that everyone is given a seed of faith and they can either squelch it or allow it grow. I have worked with many people that were on death's doorstep and it is at times like these that you see them grab hold of that faith--whether it be a "seed" or a "tree planted by the river."

Right now we have many of our men and women who are healthy, yet still at death's doorstop. They may not pass thru that door, but they are at the doorstop nonetheless. I recently read something about how the ACLU had caused the military to disallow preaching or sharing faith when giving out Bibles. (The Gideons are a 100 year old organization that give out free Bibles --I am sure you have seen them in your hotel nightstand). It has been the practice for Gideons to give Bibles to our military when deployed. In the past, individuals have also shared their faith with those being deployed. I hate that that can no longer happen. Check out the Gideons Bible donation program HERE.

Another organization that provides Bibles upon deployment is Campus Crusade for Christ which is an off-shoot of Billy Graham's ministry. I believe that providing our military with the tools that will give them direction, comfort, and peace is important. What they do with those tools is up to them. If they do not believe, that is their choice, but the Bible being given is a gift. Many people do not see hte importance of giving someone, but have you heard the saying "There are no atheists in foxholes"? At times of stress and particularly war, people grab hold of their faith and cry out to God and having that Bible is precious.

Consider providing Bibles to our military. Please visit either the Gideons or the Campus Crusade site and check out their programs -- it is a way to support our military in a most important way -- in feeding them spiritually and emotionally. Check out the program HERE.

For your own self, I am posting the following links:

Well, night night.

Psalm 1:1-3
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Bucky Covington -- New Single - Addendum

The other day I posted about Bucky Covington planning to release some new music. He is planning to drop his new single around "February Sixteenish" (But, I know Bucky will be in Europe and won't be able to hear it play for the first time here.. awwww). Well, we will be here to celebrate and are excited for you Bucky.

Since, Bucky posted a video about the single himself, I had to add this addendum.

Bucky's last single, "I'll Walk" made it to #10 in Billboard's Hot Country Songs Chart (that's three, count them --1-2-3, consecutive hits for our boy!). Way to go Bucky!

So, here ya go:

Laser - Medical and Cosmetic Tattoos and the Like

Well, I guess I am putting out a Public Service Announcement of sorts by this post, but I wanted to share this with you.

I have a beautiful friend Carrie or "Cariangel" as she is affectionately referred to by many. Yes, that is Cariangel's picture here courtesy of her website. Geez, I think it's been about 15 years that we have known each other--maybe more. We don't get to see each other much these days, but she is a special person that I keep in my prayers. One of these days we will get to catch a bite together or something when our schedules work it out.

I was reading about her new venture "Total-Laser" and I was really impressed to read her bio. I was not aware that she had become so accomplished in her field--and that it she had progressed to that point that she also was using it to help others, including cancer patients. Very cool.

Cariangel is a tattoo artist and also has her own shop. (Mind you, I will not be getting any tattoos, thank you. But, I don't judge those that have them either because that is their outer costume and only God can see their heart.) Cariangel did not rest on her laurels, she perfected her artistry techniques and has furthered her education to become a Medical and Cosmetic Tattoo Artist as well as a Certified Laser Technician (Lasers can help with a laundry list of problems).

I have worked with many cancer patients and when I read the section on how Cariangel is able to give women back their self-esteem, I understood. I really hadn't thought about that aspect of the tattoo industry since I don't think about tats very much. I also see the benefit of tattooing for burn victims and those with other problems (have a lot of freckles you would like to get ride of?)

Many of you that read my blog are all around the world (it is so awesome to see that too -- thanx), but I thought for those of you in the New York and Tri-State Area at least, I would let you know of Caringel's new business and all the services the are provided including hair removal (men, she even does backs!).

Cariangel, partnering with another Certified Laser Technician Dana (who also brings other expertise) and a doctor providing other enhancements, have opened their doors for business. They are located in prestigious Bronxville, New York in Westchester County (that has to say something in itself).

Check out Total-Laser and Cariangel's Bio HERE.

Carrie -- I wish you the best as you enter this new phase in your life. HUGS :) oh and p.s.-- look who you are sharing the page with (below) :)

Jason Castro at International Film Festival for Amar a Morir (Jeff Buckley)

Well, yesterday was busy, busy, busy and I could not sit and collect my thoughts to share with you. It's early today and before I get up and go, I wanted to share Jason Castro's performance at the International Film Festival and premier of Amar a Morir on Friday night.

Already there are several videos posted on Youtube from people that had the privilege of attending this special event. Thank you to those that shared those videos with us!

You know Jeff Buckley is definitely known for his rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" -- and I like Buckley's version, but when I hear Jason Castro sing it, his performance touches a very special place in my heart. Jason's heart is invested and you know and feel that he is singing it to his Lord and Savior as praise. (See my interpretation of the song Hallelujah in my 12/4/08 post) (Jeff Buckley's mother herself was also touched by Jason's performance and shared her thoughts in an interview last year -- google it).

Jeff Buckley is, without a doubt, connected to the popularity of Hallelujah, but Jason Castro will definitely known for this song forever as well. Thank you Jason for praising our Lord before the world. (Jason Castro catapulted Buckley's own version to number one long after Buckley's death)

Thanx to the poster HallelujahJason1824, Jason's performance at the Film Festival is below:

Also, thanx to Winnpoober, the following is a portion of the Festival where the director of Amar a Morir discussing why they chose Jason Castro for the film's soundtrack:

and lastly, an article with pictures of the event HERE.

Jason Castro -- Bucky Covington -- Cole Degges (Deggs) -- Richie Fields -- Icy Fire

Well, first of all I need to say sorry to my peeps! I have been busy with some other stuff the last two days and haven't gotten a chance to drop by and say a few words.

It's time for the annual physical, the weekly grocery shopping, trying to answer all the emails, facebook, myspace, texting, telephone calls...oh and then there is work and all the other stuff that one does on a daily basis. (Talking to my Lord and spending time in the Word is a given so I didn't mention that in the list :)

Anyway, enough about me LOL.. so..

Tonight Jason Castro is appearing in Santa Monica, California at an International Film Festival which will feature the premier of the Mexican film "Amar a Morir." After hearing Jason's beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", he was asked to record the song for the soundtrack of the film. The people at the festival are in for a treat if they never hear of Jason Castro as of yet. We are so proud of Jason for each stepping stone he takes toward his dream. The movie trailer is below if you want to take a peek.

There has been a buzz in the air about Bucky Covington and his upcoming USO trip. He will be performing in Kosovo and Germany the third week in February. I can't wait to see if our "shiny bass" shares any videos with us from the tour or there is a TV special in the works. On another note, we hear Bucky's new single is being discussed. There a number of songs that he already performs live that are getting good feedback so we can't wait to hear the new single choice.

-------------------------
So, today I listened to a some of Cole Degges' (f/k/a Cole Deggs) newly recorded music. One of the songs is a favorite of a friend of mine. She has been waiting and praying that Cole's song "Missin' Mississippi" would be recorded on his next CD. (Well, Miss IcyFire*, I think you just might get to hear your favorite Cole Degges song again soon). Actually take a mosey on over to Cole's myspace and check out the new stuff :)

-------------------------
On another note, Richie Fields has been climbing that stairway to success as well. His current single, "Devil In The Mirror," is being well received by radio listeners across the country. Richie has things in the works for a new recording project with producer J. Gary Smith (Smith has worked with an impressive resume of artists including Andy Griggs, Waylon Jennings, Mindy McCready, Lonestar, Darrel Singletary, Johnny Cash). I can't wait to hear the product that collaboration will turn out.

-------------------------
* On a final note, I wanted to post this beautiful picture I found on Flickr. I believe credit belongs to Timothy K. Hamilton. This picture is entitled "ICY FIRE." I am posting it and dedicating it to my friend Kimberly.

Prayers for Barack Obama and his administration

Well, today was a memorable and historical day--we have a President of African-American heritage. My grandparents were immigrants so I truly respect the American dream and the major significance of today's inauguration and the potential "shot in the arm" that could come about because of this historical event.

I grew up in a wonderful place and went to a school that came together in unity and beyond color. I was in the south during the time of Dr. Martin Luther King (oh, oh, don't guess my age), I also had a close relationship with Marian Anderson for several years before she passed away and she shared many of her experiences with me (Google her -- SHE IS A MAJOR PART OF BLACK HISTORY), so I truly understand the history and significance of today.

I am thankful that I grew up in a family that looked at a person as a person, looked beyond their human costume, and treated each person special. I am thankful that God has allowed me to have friends from many different backgrounds and heritages.

That being said, I could not let today go by without prayers for our new President. I read a wonderful prayer sent out in an email from Rory and Wendy from god.tv. I want to share that prayer with you here and ask you to agree in prayer as well. (the picture is also courtesy of god.tv):

"Father, according to Timothy 2, Paul exhorted that "supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and for all that are in authority that we may lead a quiet peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior". In obedience to Your Word, we join together this day, January 20 2009, with our GOD TV family all across the United States of America and join in one heart and one mind in prayer and intercession for our new incoming President Barack Obama.

Father we ask this day that as Barack Obama is inaugurated here in Washington DC, that You would look down from Heaven and in Your great mercies upon America look down this day upon President Barack Obama and grant him exceeding wisdom in these crucial days ahead facing him and the new administration. Oh mighty Father we pray as a united body to You, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that You may grant to Barack Obama the spirit of wisdom and revelation of the knowledge of Yourself this day. That the eyes of President Obama's understanding be enlightened that he may know what is the hope of his calling and the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of Your power to us-ward who believe and to himself, according to the working of Your mighty power which you wrought in Christ, when You raised Him from the dead.

Father we pray that the overshadowing fear of the Lord would start to rest upon this new administration. We pray for Your sovereign hand to guide the President and those in his cabinet. We release YOUR purposes, we release YOUR plan, we release YOUR strategies and YOUR wisdom, we release YOUR governance. We pray for visitation in the President's night hours and revelation in his waking hours, that as he enters the pressures and the challenges of office in 2009 that he would be driven to trust in You as his mighty fortress, that he would find refuge and wisdom under Your wings, that he would seek Your face before he seeks man's wisdom and Father, that You would pour out word after word in season upon him from on high.

Father, we thank you that even as Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson ruled in generations before Barack Obama, that You have placed upon President Barack Obama's shoulders a mantle to root out and tear up wickedness, thank you Father, that by Your sovereign mighty hand, You would imbue him with zealousness and righteousness to rout out evil men and sinister schemes. Grant President Barack Obama the courage to rule with justice and the wisdom to rule under God. And Father, as the body of Christ that we commit to You to lift him up faithfully and fervently. That we may consistently petition Heaven on Barack Obama's behalf and petition President Barack Obama on YOUR behalf.

Father, we also ask that You minister to him in the night hours regarding the issue of abortion that he may know Your heart and Your mind on these issues so important to Heaven. And finally we ask divine protection and blessing over his family and upon his physical life. Preserve his life from being cut off prematurely, Father preserve him from sinister schemes and the schemes of wicked men. Thank you that as President of the United States he will run the course that is laid out for him in this time and this season.

Thank you for joining with us and our GOD TV teams all across America to pray for President Barack Obama today and in the months and years ahead. God Bless America!
With our love in the service of the Lord Jesus Christ,
Rory and Wendy Alec."

Well, night night for now.
Time to walk the dog and hit the pillow.

Bucky Covington going on USO Tour! YIPEE

BuckytownUSA.com -- thanx for sharing girls)

Great news out of the Covington camp (thanx to a shiny bass) is that Bucky Covington and his band are traveling to Europe for a USO Tour (we believe sometime in February)! I am so thrilled for the boys and for our troops as well. A Bucky show definitely will lift anyone's spirits. (His band consists of wonderful, dedicated, and talented musicians in their own right) (If you don't enjoy yourself at a Bucky show, I would look for a pulse).

I had the special privilege of interviewing Bucky Covington last year and I asked him about his desire to work with the USO and to visit the troops. Here is a part of that interview:

ME: "We understand that the charity you work with is the USO. Do you have any plans to entertain the troops anytime in the near future, either in the US or overseas?"

BUCKY: "That is something that I really would like to do. I would like to perform for them in the States, but I would really like to visit them overseas. I can remember when I went on the three month tour with American Idol and how it felt when I was basically cut off from my family. Well, I wasn't entirely cut off, but it was a separation. So, I know a little of how it feels to be separated from those you love and how it can affect you. My separation from family is nothing in comparison to what our men and women in the service have to deal with. They are cut off from friends and family for long periods of time in a distant place.

I want to show my appreciation for what they do for us and show them we care about them and are grateful for their dedication. So yeah, that's definitely something I want to do."

----------------------
I know this tour will be memorable for Bucky and the band. I hope the experience will deeply touch their hearts and the hearts of those that they get to meet as well.

(Gee, I can remember that before 2006, Bucky had never flown in an airplane. He sure will be adding a lot more miles to his tally with this flight.)

I know it is a little early, but I am going to pray and and ask each of you who read this blog to say a little prayer for Bucky and the boys and all join them in this this tour -- asking the Lord for their protection, their health, and guidance in all circumstances regarding this endeavor. Thank you Jesus for working all of this out.

Jesus Bless!
Safe traveling boys! Have a wonderful experience!

Kara DioGuardi and Barak Obama

I know the title of my blog seemingly eludes to the fact that there is some connection between Kara DioGuardi and Barak Obama, but in actuality, the only connection that I am aware of is that fact that they both are in my mind today.

This morning I watched Regis and Kelly on ABC and Kara DioGuardi was their special guest. I previously mentioned that us "New Yawkas" know how to pronounce "DioGuardi" and that is because the DioGuardi's have been prominent in New York history for a long time now. Focusing on the political aspect, to my recollection, there were several DioGuardi's in prominent government positions during my lifetime.

Well, I came into the room a little late in the conversation, but I believe that Regis Philbin was reading his Family Tree and showed how he was related to the DioGuardi's. So, Kara DioGuardi and Regis Philbin are actually related back there someplace. I found that interesting. In working on my high school reunion, I found out that there were several people that I was related to as well -- that I went to high school with -- and I never knew it. Small world. Glad I didn't marry any of them LOL.

------------------
Well, tomorrow is the day that President-Elect Barack Obama is inaugurated into office -- a most historical event. I understand the major accomplishment this election has made with respect to civil rights and applaud that we have made strides in that area. While I do not agree with the politics of Mr. Obama, I do respect the position of the presidency -- and I know that Mr. Obama would not be in office if my God did not have a purpose for allowing him to be seated in that chair.

That being said, I feel there is a very difficult road ahead for this country in many ways and urge us all to be diligent in praying for our country and our elected officials -- and specifically Barack Obama. How many of us specifically pray as God directs us to do so?

Lastly, as a reminder, please also pray for the Peace of Jerusalem.
Psalm 122:6
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love you.

Catch ya later
God bless.

National Sanctity of Human Life Day, 2009

It's still freezing here in the northeast and the Lord decided to bless us with snow again. Sometimes it's hard to endure our blessings LOL ...I surely do look forward to the warmer, sunnier days so I guess these days make me appreciate those warmer, sunnier days even more.

I am only jumping in here for a minute today. I just wanted to share a presidential proclamation from this week.

It is almost 36 years since the passing of Roe v. Wade the Court Order that changed our society in so many ways. (I believe the ripple effect is much greater than people realize -- much greater than just the abortion issue -- life in general is no longer respected).

On January 15, 2009 before leaving office, President Bush issued a proclamation making today National Sanctity of Life Day. We may not see such a proclamation from the White House again with the "Changes" that are expected.

You can read the entire proclamation HERE, but I am posting the first paragraph below:

All human life is a gift from our Creator that is sacred, unique, and worthy of protection. On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, our country recognizes that each person, including every person waiting to be born, has a special place and purpose in this world. We also underscore our dedication to heeding this message of conscience by speaking up for the weak and voiceless among us.

The Lord commands us to pray for our leaders. I ask all of you to pray for the heart and the wisdom of our soon-to-be President Obama.

We also need to pray for our country as a whole as well and all the issues our people are experiencing. In particularly, there are several family and friends that are searching for employment -- this is a bad time to be out of work. Any prayers are appreciated.

Stay Warm. HUGS

Plane Down in Hudson River, Bucky Covington, Jason Castro, Michael Castro -- Oh My

Well, today was another frigid temperature experience here in the northeast. Just taking the trash to the curb caused my fingers to go numb and begin to feel pain. Thank God that I don't work outside and that I do not have to wait outside to take the train into the City.

I saw people bundled up and people that were not wise enough to wear appropriate clothing. It is really important to dress warm and stay dry when you go out in frigid temperatures. Some people may not even know of the possibility of experiencing Frostbite for exposure to freezing temperatures. Frostbite occurs when the tissues freeze and cause damage (nose, fingers, toes etc). It starts with that pins and needles tingling and can increase to a severe damage of the tissues. It is kind of like when you leave meat or chicken in the freezer and it comes out with that yucky freezer burn and you have to throw it away. My father had damage from frostbite he had gotten while serving in the military in WWII experiencing severe winters during his tour.

For those of you in the Sunny parts of the country and the world right now that can't even begin to fathom my comments LOL oh pooh! I hope you appreciate your weather, because we are wanting some of it.

Well, a lot of things have been swirling around in my head today -- Definitely how blessed I am to have such a wonderful family, all the news about what is being called the miraculous landing of the airliner in the Hudson River yesterday (and how people were praying with one another on board during the minutes before and after impact), all of the emails I have received about Bucky Covington's recent performances in Las Vegas and his upcoming shows, goings on of Jason Castro and Jason Michael Carroll, the buzz all over the web about Michael Castro's audition on American Idol, and the upcoming Inaguration and the Inaugural prayer.

Since there are so many topics running thru the brain today, I will refrain from concentrating on one in particular because it is late and it is cold, and tomorrow is another day (Lord willing).

I was told tonight that someone was waiting for me to write the blog and has been looking out for it today and it has not appeared as yet LOL. I'm sorry it's late, but I'm putting it up before midnight--so we're all good :)

I was also asked today why I write about music and musicans, well first off it is because I love music. But, I've gotten to the point in my life where I really don't care to listen to someone's music if they are not a person with values. I am saddened for those with "tudes" or are "divas", or that let money and their success go to their heads, and those who are not appreciative. Being successful at singing or playing music may make someone a celebrity, but in my book, they are just a person with a different career choice (albeit who makes lots more money), but they are definitely not worthy of being treated like a god--respect, yes--worship, no.) (My God shall have no gods before Him.) I do appreciate their being put into a position of influence that they can use for God's glory if they are willing (and when they do, I like them even more) and I do enjoy meeting them and being about my Father's work. I know He has caused me to be in certain situations.

Oops, well, guess what -- I sat here so long, it is after midnight in New York and so I missed my Friday night deadline. So, I am posting this as is right now and going to bed!

Thank you Lord for saving all passengers and crew on the airliner that landed in the Hudson River yesterday. I ask that you speak to the hearts of those who were on board and draw them closer to you--let them know you have a purpose for their lives.
Amen.

Night all. Catch ya tomorrow.

(p.s. I will spellcheck and redo grammar tomorrow LOL)

Michael Castro -- Yeah for You! (American Idol, Jason Castro's Brother)

Well, last night's American Idol added a number of really good contenders to the race. I can see several of the contestants chosen last night finishing with opportunities before them.

There were surprises along the way in that the voices came out of certain people that you would have never imagined. It was like when America heard Clay Aiken sing for the first time. If these contestants go the distance, AI will transform each from average guy or girl into a celebrity. (There's both some good and bad in that aspect of it, but if the person is grounded, they should be able to deal with it ok).

I so wanted Danny Goekey to advance to the next round and he did. (Yeah Danny!) Danny recently lost his wife and was still experiencing the suffering and grief. I wanted to reach out and hug him and let him know that God loved him and America will love him too. Danny sang "I Heard It Through the Grapevine". I'm hoping he continues through the ranks.

Of all the contestants, you already know I was anxious to see our "special brother" Michael Castro. (the brother of Jason Castro). Michael did not disappoint. Michael is genuine and really a great guy. His voice has a distinct and edgy quality to it and I am excited to see how God will use him. (though we may never actually know, I believe he definitely will be used.)

I loved the interaction between Jason and Michael. This family is FUNCTIONAL and loving and truly love one another and the Lord. This family "walks the walk". I saw that Michael was wearing the other half of a heart necklace which means that his girlfriend (Miss M) must be wearing the other half. That made me smile, because in Michael's comment about Jason being more emotional LOL, the necklace jumped out at me and reminded me that Michael too is tender and sweet.

Well, I hope Michael made it through, but it's all up to God's plan.

If you check out my blog a few days or weeks prior to this one, you will see that Michael has already changed his hairstyle. (I know he loves the red, but he has blonde in it now which softens him a bit and I like it). Enjoy the AI video below:

American Idol - Michael Castro and Jason Castro

UPDATE: A little birdie told me that it was definite that the Castro boys WILL be on tonight's episode of American Idol (Whoop!)

Last night I watched American Idol, but the audition city was not the one in which Michael Castro performed his audition (at least to my recollection). I did though see two superfast camera shots of Michael -- One in the crowd in the front row of seats and the other in a speeded up clip of heads.

I think that Michael and his brother Jason will be in tonight's show. I believe I heard the promo mention "a surprise visit from a former finalist". I hope they were referring to when Jason was with Michael at the audition. (If tonight isn't the night, I will still be watching next week for the other audition cities.)

Last night, the person that stood out for me was Deanna Brown, the blonde with the soulful voice, who sang a really good rendition of Otis Redding's "Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay". This girl is truly talented, but I don't know if her voice will be able to do all the twists and turns of the AI genre shuffles. Someone does need to offer her a contract at some point.

The story that touched my heart was a different Michael -- Michael Sarver. He is blind and is gifted vocally as well as musically. His perserverance and overcoming attitude is what makes his story worth repeating. In addition, I can see him having a career no matter what the AI adventure brings.

I always love watching the show. I look more for a very special person that has a heart for the Lord and usually root for them :) (because they are usually filled with love and are beautiful inside) (MCas -- can't wait to see your clip. We already know you are beautiful inside)

On another note, please, please, please -- pray for what is going on over in the middle east. Biblical prophecy is unfolding before our eyes as well. Keep your eyes on the Lord and in His Word...and Pray.

Gotta run for now. STAY WARM!

Sorry, I don't know the photo credits of these pictures, there were posted by another that I know did not take them.

Prayers for my friend Kaity

Hey all, I ask that you say a prayer for my friend Kaity now and again over the next few months. (Kaity and I met one night and the Lord bonded our friendship -- She too is a "Buckaneer").

Kaity is taking a semester in Uganda. It is an awesome opportunity and experience and I am sure it will impact her in a deep way.

Please pray for her health, her protection and her wisdom (and whatever else the Lord puts upon your heart).

If you would like to read her blog while she is away, you can view it HERE.

Brooke White, Michael Johns -- ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and the Red Cross

Someone special in our family passed away last year due to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). I also used to volunteer with the Red Cross years ago. So both of those causes are special to me.

If you watch American Idol, you know that Michael Johns and Brooke White were finalists this past 2008 season. Michael Johns posted this duet he recorded with Brooke called "Life is Okay". If you download the song from iTunes, the proceeds go to ALS and the Red Cross. Michael Johns met and has become friends with Nancy O'Dell and these are her favorite charities.

So, since AI is starting again tonight and continuing that mindset, I am posting Michael and Brooke's duet. Take a Listen: HERE.

NOTE TO MICHAEL JOHNS: Thank you for singing Happy Birthday to me in Newark -- and YES, We surely are still praying for you :) (I hope one day you will see God's hand in your life)

NOTE TO BROOKE: Stay as precious and sweet as you are. Jesus loves you :)The "DH's" have a special spot in their heart for you.

The following is a picture of the top 8 Season 7 American Idol finalists (2008) (Michael and Brooke being the two in the top left corner). (Jason Castro is the one with the dreads -- I had to mention Jason, why not? :)

American Idol Season 8 begins tonight on Fox TV (Michael Castro)

Sorry for not posting yesterday, so I will try to make up for it sometime today.

I only have a few minutes right now, but I wanted to remind everyone that the new season of American Idol starts tonight on Fox TV (8pm EST, 7pm Central). If you haven't watched it before, give it a peek, it really is something you can watch with the whole family.

I am anxious to see Michael Castro (Jason Castro's brother). I have heard rumors that he may have been booted off in round two, but we shall see.

Even if he was booted off, no matter... God has a plan for that young man's life and since he was gifted with a voice, I believe God will use it in his life. (Romans 8:28)

Don't forget.. use a little "heart-throscopy" and look beyond the human costume (Michael loves the unique hair, but his heart is tender for the Lord). Michael may have had some red streaks in his hair during the audition period. Gotta love him for the way he shows his uniqueness. (My boys made "statements" in their hair too :)

The following is a picture of Michael with Linda in Garland, Texas in December:

NOTE to MCas: -- we wish you well. With love and prayers on your journey in life and we can't wait for your CD. Jesus bless! (I am glad I got to meet you in Garland)

Bucky Covington -- 24 hrs. Part II (thanx Steve Cook)

Well, first and foremost let me give a shout out and a big thank you to Steve Cook! Thanx Steve for videoing and posting Bucky Covington's behind the scenes videos and for putting up Part II of the 24 hrs. experience.

Last week I posted the video "Bucky Covington -- 24 hrs. Part I" sharing the recent excrutiatingly long travel adventure that Bucky, his band, and crew endured to get from Nashville to San Francisco for a show. A few people have asked me for Part II and so here ya go:

24 Hours - Part II

Note to Bucky and the Guys: I'm glad to see you made it there and back in one piece (a little sleep deprived, but still kicking).

I am also posting a video from Bucky to his fans thanking them fans for 2008. Enjoy "Hometown" (video produced by Steve):

In a Keith Green mood (Last Days Ministries)

It is freezing here today in New York. The snow was falling and it was so beautiful to watch it gently drift to the ground. (Did you know that every single flake is unique--just like us? -- God made us both). Several inches of snow have accumulated, but I haven't watched the weather report so I don't know the amount. I got this really great robe and slippers for Christmas --my favorite color--RED--and oh soooo warm. So, after running errands and cleaning the car and my walkway, it was great to curl up in my robe and slippers with a cup of hot chocolate and sit quietly.

Have you ever sat quietly and thought of the awesomeness of our God--our creator? Have you ever been so flooded with love in your heart that you can't help, but love back? That is the feeling that I get when I think of my Lord and Savior. Well, that intensifies so much when I hear or sing songs by Keith Green--and that is what I did today. I'm in a Keith Green mood -- translated means that, like Keith, I am in awe of my Lord and humbly bow before Him and bask in His glory.

When I was presented with the facts that Jesus wanted me to surrender my life to Him because He bought me by His blood (THANX JEANNE!), it was something that I knew I needed to do--so I did. I thought just going to church was enough -- I was so blind in my thinking. Finally, I accepted my personal gift of salvation -- in 1976 (sometimes I think 1975, but it was definitely 1976).

Well, Keith Green had a huge impact on my walk with Christ. Keith was a dynamite, on-fire, totally committed, humble, and passionate follower of Christ. It just so happens that he was also a recording artist, but one that called you into a deeper relationship with God and he lived the example. I never met Keith in person, but I did participate in the ministry that Keith and his wife Melody ran (Last Days Ministry) and it strengthened my own walk with Christ. (Keith and Melody with both Jewish but had come to realize and believe that Jesus was their Messiah and gave their lives totally to Him.)

Keith and Melody both "walked the walk" not just "talked the talk." Their lives spoke volumes and their hearts overflowed with the love God infused into them.

Keith and two of their younger children (almost babies) were killed in an airplane accident on a mission trip in 1982. Melody raised their other children and carried on the ministry which have impacted the lives of countless here and in other other countries by their compassion including saving souls, teaching, feeding the hungry, and providing for orphans.

Well, all that "introduction" is just because I am listeing to Keith Green songs today (and can't help singing along) in worship to my King. I wanted to share a few of them with you also. Mind you, the videos you are going to see are from the mid 70's when life was very different. (To coin a phrase from Bucky Covington, "It was a Different World".) So, the hair and clothes are a little different from today. In fact, I can't wait for my younger son to see the videoes because when he sees Keith Green's hair, he will finally know that "that" hairstyle WAS POPULAR back then! :)

I hope you too enjoy Keith Green and if you get time, please visit Last Days Ministries to read their biographies and how they have touched lives and still do. I pray that he touches your heart the way he does mine and brings tears of love to your eyes for God, our Lord.

Religious Freedom Day - January 16th

Did you know that we actually still have a Religious Freedom Day? With the way everyone is so PC these days, I am surprised that it is still allowed.

Sidenote -- I am happy that I saw a poll on a secular news publication site asking whether "In God We Trust" should be removed from our money and the "No" votes were only about a 5th of the "Yes" votes. WOOOHOOO!

Ok, back to my original train of thought...So, January 16th is Religious Freedom Day each year by presidential proclamation. The goal of the Day as stated on the website is "The goal of ReligiousFreedomDay.com is to promote and protect students' religious expression rights by informing educators, parents, and students about these liberties."

If anyone really digs into their history and actually reads the laws etc, this country was founded FOR religious freedom. The pilgrims were just that "pilgrims" (look it up in the dictionary).

If you don't know it by now, I am a follower of Christ. He says "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father but through me." (John 14:6) So, for me, I believe what He says and He is my Lord. I also believe that God gave us each Free Will -- the freedom to make decisions and choose for ourselves.

Many people do not chose to believe as I do and do not commit their lives to Christ, but they still have the right to chose how they see fit. That being said, just because someone choses to believe a certain way, doesn't make it the Truth. Jesus said He was the Truth. (Let's face it, if I didn't think He was the Truth, then I wouldn't have committed my life to Him -- and we all have the right to say what we think -- there ya go :)

Please check out the Religious Freedom Day website and take a look at the resources they have available for you. Let's exercise those freedoms while we still have them. (p.s. Thanx to Jeanne from NR for sharing).

Catch you guys later or tomorrow. I need to get a bite to eat.

American Idol has a New Judge - Kara DioGuardi

Well, it's time again for the new season of American Idol. I know a lot of people the in music industry do not like American Idol for this reason or that, but there are a lot of good things about the show (which I have previously discussed).

I enjoy the variety shows from years gone by. I enjoy wholesome TV that the whole family can watch. (I don't like the term "Idol" and I don't put anyone on a pedestal but my Jesus.) I like the idea that someone blessed with talent is given the opportunity to use their gift (how to use it depends if they ask the Lord or not -- some do).

So, this Tuesday night on Fox at 8pm (EST) Season 8 will begin. I have watched since Season 1 (but actually only ever voted for Bucky Covington and Jason Castro -- there's something special about those boys. Many were talented, but I look into the heart -- a little "heart-throscopy"). (For the same reason I am looking forward to seeing how Michael Castro does this season, but no matter what, I believe he will go places).

This year there will be a fourth Judge added to mix things up a bit. Another female and a fiesty New Yorker (her hometown is on the border of my hometown). Her name is Kara DioGuardi. Kara is a successful songwriter who has written many of songs that you have probably have had running through your head at one time or another (no matter which genre you listen to -- I know another sentence ending with a preposition -- oh well).

A little tidbit I heard Kara tell an interviewer is that she and Paula Abdul have history in that they actually lived together for a while. When Kara was starting out, Paula took her under her wing for a while and invited her to stay with her. So, Kara is thankful to Paula for her help in the industry. It will be interesting to see the rapport between four judges.

Kara will be on David Letterman on January 12th and Regis and Kelly on January 19th if you want to catch an interview or two.

Well, I have to run so I will put up Kara's own website and you can check her out for yourself. In the piece, Kara interviews people who try to pronounce her name LOL.. She definitely was not in New York because most "New Yawkas" now how to pronounce "Dio Guardi". It's a New York thang; it's an Italian thang.

Check out KARA DIOGUARDI.

God TV :) Good stuff and "Delirious?"

I don't know how many of you watch "God TV" but it is some good stuff! I understand that it is available on your TV also, but I watch it on my computer. You can watch it at http://www.god.tv.

You can hear right-on biblical teachings, join in prayer, enter into praise and worship, and hear some wonderful music (The umbrella of Christian music has all genres under it so don't be fooled, there is something there for everyone).

So, for my PSA (Public Service Announcement), I thought I would share the upcoming highlights for the new year on god.tv.

The following is a short note from the people at god.tv:

Begin 2009 with a boost of praise and worship, because GOD TV is inviting you to bring Glory to His Holy Name this weekend.

Don’t miss out on heartfelt worship with Eddie James at The Ramp (Colorado, USA) this weekend. Dutch Sheets and Damon Wheaton also share messages that will challenge your thinking, plus the dance and drama group Chosen perform some emotive works. We truly do serve a creative God.

Next up is The Ultimate Event from Alton Towers (UK) which never disappoints with a remarkable list of top Christian bands and speakers. Favourites like Delirious? headline the event, plus other top-class acts - namely the popular worship band, RPM and American punk/emo band, This Beautiful Republic - will take to the stage.

Sunday takes on an End-Time focus with MorningStar Ministries founder, Rick Joyner. Rick shares some invaluable End-Time teachings that will give you more insight into what is happening in the world today and what God’s Word says about these times. Prepare for victory by tuning in to this insightful conference.

I also am posting a video by "Delirious?" since they were mentioned above. Take a listen, I hope you enjoy "Majesty" by Delirious?

Also, here is a little interview and acoustic version of "I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever" which includes a little lesson on how to play the song if you play guitar yourself.

Night Night - see ya tomorrow :)

TRENT WILLMON NARRATES CHILDREN’S BOOK - The Knock-Kneed Cowboy

I received a press release today regarding Trent Willmon and I wanted to share it. For those of you who may not know who Trent is -- "google him." I really like Trent -- he is a "real cowboy" in my book. I got the chance to interview him in 2008 and he was gracious and a gentleman.

Take a peek at one of my favorite videos of his (no matter what genre of music you like, I think you will be blessed) -- watch "There is a God".

Trent is busy doing so many different things -- from his singing/songwriting, his BBQ sauce and cookbook, movies etc. -- and now Trent narrates a children's book written by his mother.

Rather than reword the press release, I will share it as is. You can also Order a copy on the author's website Empowering For Change and read a little more about Trent Willmon HERE.

TRENT WILLMON NARRATES A CHILDREN'S BOOK

Multi-talented country music artist Trent Willmon just added children’s book narrator to his long list of accomplishments. Trent lends his voice to the reading of The Knock-Kneed Cowboy: A Tale of Being “Just Right”…Just As We Are. Written and illustrated by Willmon’s mother, Billie Willmon Jenkins, The Knock-Kneed Cowboy is a story for kids and anyone whose self acceptance could use a boost.

Jenkins wrote the story for her sons when they were children and recently self-published the work. “Most people’s beliefs about their worth come from others’ opinions of them. I was determined that kids know that they don’t have to let others’ ideas about them become their own. I see the book as an adventure in self-acceptance and I’m delighted that Trent agreed to record this book. Even kids who are not terrific readers will be motivated to read along with Trent and will grasp exactly what I intended for them to.”

“I love the book,” Willmon says. “It was taken from a story Mom made up for my brother and me when we were kids. Casey is a knock-kneed cowboy who wants to be bow-legged like all his peers. When the book starts out, you think it’s just for elementary-school kids. But as you read on, you realize it’s a parable about all of us who feel ‘different.’ It’s a message – and a fun tale – for all ages.”

As Willmon reads the story, available on a three CD set, he becomes characters like Honey - a fifth-grade girl, Grandpa, Troubles - a bad-luck cow dog and Gus - the fairy god-frog.

“I’ve enjoyed Trent’s vocal power on his CDs and in his concerts; I can hardly wait to hear him read Knock-Kneed Cowboy. Reluctant readers and those of us who spend a lot of time in the car will love the opportunity to listen to him read this book,” one fan stated.

Jenkins is offering a special through January 12: Order the combination of The Knock-Kneed Cowboy in print and the 3 CD audio set for $27.97 which includes shipping. The audio alone is $23.97 through January 12. Regularly $19.97 (book) + $25.97 (audio). Orders can be placed on her website: http://empoweringforchange.com/trent-willmon-records-3-cd-album/

Cell Phones and Telemarketers -- Do Not Call Registry

Today, I received emails regarding the Cell Phone numbers going public enabling telemarketers to call your cell phone number. The emails also urged registry with the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.

I have been guilty of forwarding emails myself at times without doing a complete investigation on the subject matter. My kids and my sister are the first to take me to task for doing that very thing. The best site on the internet for doing that investigation is SNOPES. Snopes provides the 411 on those forwarded emails you receive (some of them have been circulating for years).
(I can't tell you how many emails I still receive about Madalyn Murry O'Hare filing a petition against religious broadcasters -- problem is O'Hare died in 1995 -- I didn't have to check Snopes on that one.)

So, rewind to the cell phone issue. I checked Snopes and the forwarded warning of telemarketers being able to call your cell phone is False. The Snopes info is HERE and the info on the Federal Trade Commissions website is HERE.

You can always register your phone or your cell phone on the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY but you must call from the phone that you are registering.

Rocky Covington, Ducky Medlock, Tom Hurst - Addendum

I've received a number of emails regarding my post about the band "Medrock".

I don't know anything more than I posted, but from my experience it is common for musicians to always being collaborating and jamming here and there. They will jump in and play with other artists and even form their owns bands in which they play publicly during their downtime. Some may even put out albums with other artists or a side band while they remain in their main band.

So, the guys having formed Medrock most likely does not mean that they are leaving Bucky Covington. I don't have a direct 411 on that, but my gut tells me they are with Bucky for the long haul or a least a very good portion of it. (UPDATE AND CONFIRMATION: Don't worry, the boys are NOT leaving Bucky! -- it's a fun thing.)Here is the picture of Tom Hurst that I tried to upload yesterday.
Tom sports a little shorter hair now.

MEDROCK -- Rocky Covington and Ducky Medlock

Those of you that know of Bucky Covington are probably aware that Bucky has a twin brother Rocky Covington. Rocky sings and plays in Bucky's band. He has a large fanbase of his own. (Sometimes people think Bucky is Rocky and Rocky is Bucky -- but true fans definitely know the difference).

Along with Ducky Medlock, another bandmate and long time friend, and I believe also with another bandmate Tom Hurst, the boys have a group of their own known as Medrock. (I understand where the name came from... very cute) (I don't know if Jeff Cease or Steve Cook will also be playing in Medrock -- if I find out, I'll let you know. I don't mean any offense in not including them here in this post).

Well, Rocky posted that Medrock will be performing on Monday night, January 19, 2009 at Mickey Roo's (ahhhh ha, I haven't been there, but I have definitely heard of it :) So, to anyone in Tennessee or who is willing to travel to see the Rock, and Duck, and Tom, I am sure it will be a fun time. I know it's a weeknight, but if you can show some support, please do. (Danna? Kimberly? Melanie? Carrie?)

Mickey Roo’s is located 509 Hillsboro Road in Franklin. Tennessee.

Heart Attack in Women - symptoms

Ok, I have been slacking the last few days since I hurt my eye. Then, I actually watched TV instead of blogging.. my bad. To make up for my procrastination, I will post a few blogs today.

I am sharing the following information which was sent to me by my good friend Linda in TX who is an RN. (I am also a nurse and sharing medical information is therefore important to me.)

You may have seen this before (it is an RN's account of a heart attack), but I am posting it anyway because of the importance factor. When we usually hear about symptoms for heart attacks, they are usually those that men experience--Women's bodies work differently in some respects.

So, please read the experience below, but also check out WebMD for more info on Women's heart attack symptoms etc.

FEMALE HEART ATTACKS

I was aware that female heart attacks are different, but this is the best description I've ever read.

Women and heart attacks (Myocardial Infarction). Did you know that women rarely have the same dramatic symptoms that men have when experiencing heart attack ... you know, the sudden stabbing pain in the chest, the cold sweat, grabbing the chest & dropping to the floor that we see in the movies. Here is the story of one woman's experience:

I had a heart attack at about 10:30 PM with NO prior exertion, NO prior emotional trauma that one would suspect might've brought it on. I was sitting all snugly & warm on a cold evening, with my purring cat in my lap, reading an interesting story my friend had sent me, and actually thinking, "A-A-h, this is the life", all cozy and warm in my soft, cushy Lazy Boy with my feet propped up.

A moment later, I felt that awful sensation of indigestion, when you've been in a hurry and grabbed a bite of sandwich and washed it down with a dash of water, and that hurried bite seems to feel like you've swallowed a golf ball going down the esophagus in slow motion and it is most uncomfortable. You realize you shouldn't have gulped it down so fast and needed to chew it more thoroughly and this time drink a glass of water to hasten its progress down to the stomach. This was my initial sensation---the only trouble was that I hadn't taken a bite of anything since about 5:00 p.m.

After it seemed to subside, the next sensation was like little squeezing motions that seemed to be racing up my SPINE (hind-sight, it was probably my aorta spasming), gaining speed as they continued racing up and under my sternum (breast bone, where one presses rhythmically when administering CPR).

This fascinating process continued on into my throat and branched out into both jaws. "AHA!! NOW I stopped puzzling about what was happening -- we all have read and/or heard about pain in the jaws being one of the 20 signals of an MI happening, haven't we? I said aloud to myself and the cat, 'Dear God, I think I'm having a heart attack!'"

I lowered the footrest dumping the cat from my lap, started to take a step and fell on the floor instead. I thought to myself, If this is a heart attack, I shouldn't be walking into the next room where the phone is or anywhere else ... but, on the other hand, if I don't, nobody will know that I need help, and if I wait any longer I may not be able to get up in moment.

I pulled myself up with the arms of the chair, walked slowly into the next room and dialed the Paramedics .. I told her I thought I was having a heart attack due to the pressure building under the sternum and radiating into my jaws. I didn't feel hysterical or afraid, just stating the facts. She said she was sending the Paramedics over immediately, asked if the front door was near to me, and if so, to unbolt the door and then lie down on the floor where they could see me when they came in.

I unlocked the door and then lay down on the floor as instructed and lost consciousness, as I don't remember the medics coming in, their examination, lifting me onto a gurney or getting me into their ambulance, or hearing the call they made to St. Jude ER on the way, but I did briefly awaken when we arrived and saw that the Cardiologist was already there in his surgical blues and cap, helping the medics pull my stretcher out of the ambulance. He was bending over me asking questions (probably something like "Have you taken any medications?" but I couldn't make my mind interpret what he was saying, or form an answer, and nodded off again, not waking up until the Cardiologist and partner had already threaded the teeny angiogram balloon up my femoral artery into the aorta and into my heart where they installed 2 side-by-side stents to hold open my right coronary artery.

I know it sounds like all my thinking and actions at home must have taken at least 20-30 minutes before calling the Paramedics, but actually it took perhaps 4-5 minutes before the call, and both the fire station and St. Jude are only minutes away from my home, and my Cardiologist was already to go to the OR in his scrubs and get going on restarting my heart (which had stopped somewhere between my arrival and the procedure installing the stents.

Why have I written all of this to you with so much detail? Because I want all of you to know what I learned first hand.

1. Be aware that something very different is happening in your body not the usual men's symptoms but inexplicable things happening (until my sternum and jaws got into the act). It is said that many more women than men die of their first (and last) MI because they didn't know they were having one and commonly mistake it as indigestion, take some Maalox or other anti-heartburn preparation and go to bed, hoping they'll feel better in the morning when they wake up ... which doesn't happen.

My female friends, your symptoms might not be exactly like mine, so I advise you to call the Paramedics if ANYTHING is unpleasantly happening that you've not felt before. It is better to have a 'false alarm' visitation than to risk your life guessing what it might be!

2. Note that I said "Call the Paramedics." And if you can, take an aspirin. Ladies, TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!

-Do NOT try to drive yourself to the ER you are a hazard to others on the road.
-Do NOT have your panicked husband who will be speeding and looking anxiously at what's happening with you instead of the road.
-Do NOT call your doctor -- he doesn't know where you live and if it's at night you won't reach him anyway, and if it's daytime, his assistants (or answering service) will tell you to 20 call the Paramedics. He doesn't carry the equipment in his car that you need to be saved! The Paramedics do, principally OXYGEN that you need ASAP. Your Dr. will be notified later.

3. Don't assume it couldn't be a heart attack because you have a normal cholesterol count. Research has discovered that a cholesterol elevated reading is rarely the cause of an MI (unless it's unbelievably high and/or accompanied by high blood pressure). MI's are usually caused by long-term stress and inflammation in the body, which dumps all sorts of deadly hormones into your system to sludge things up in there.

Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep.

Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive.

Jason Michael Carroll - New Year's Eve - Atlanta

So, I am so happy that my phone recorded lots of videos from Jason Michael Carroll's show on New Year's Eve in Atlanta. But....I was right in front of the microphone and the speakers so my photos and my sound are not that great. Also, I think I need to convert before I upload because my uploading did not produce the sounds correctly. I will play with that.

Since I did promise you something, I am posting a few pictures below. As I said before, I need a new camera because I got a lot of JMC's elbow, face with a microphone in it, and hair, but very few good shots of him. He was actually above me during part of the concert and still my shots got messed up. Oh well, I will get better ones with the new camera (when I get it). I may go through what I have again and post some more tomorrow, but I do want to hit the pillow before midnight (which is creeping up on us).

In the meantime, I am sharing a picture of Jason Michael celebrating New Year's Eve at midnight by kissing his wife Wendy on stage...very precious (I don't think he will mind since he did kiss her on stage (and also posting a few other shots -- including the one of JMC's cowboy boot which was right in front of my face). I wanted to get a close-up of his jeans pants with the large cross on them (you can see them in the video on ABC of his performance on Good Morning America).

Enjoy. Catch ya on the flip side :)

"Muddy Water" Trace Adkins featuring Stephen Baldwin

I am just popping on the computer for a bit before I run out. I promise to be back later and will attempt to post my JMC stuff. (It is a new phone so it will be trial and error to get the photos and videos off of it).

I wanted to share this video by Trace Adkins because every time I hear him sing this song, I get tears in my eyes--it so touches my heart. This song is really powerful if you listen to it and understand the meaning of it. (No matter what kind of person you are, God allows U-Turns and gives you forgivenss in His amazing grace through Christ's sacrifice for you.) I have to thank Dawn from TN for putting it on my heart today. (Thanx Dawn, miss ya).

So, before I post it, did any of you see Celebrity Apprentice this past season with Trace Adkins and Stephen Baldwin? Both men appeared on the show and did well -- they also stood out above the rest for their upstanding and moral characters. I believe that God always has a purpose and bringing these two men together was definitely of the Lord.

This first video is a CMT interview with Trace regarding the making of the video and the second is the final product which I ask you to watch, no matter what genre music you prefer. I hope you enjoy them.

Stupidity in the First Person

I know I promised you guys some Jason Michael Carroll photos, but I stupidily poked myself in the eye with that big car key with the black plastic on it.. you know, the extra-sturdy, thick, official one you get with the car. OUCH!

I was getting into the car, sat and pulled up a bag across me and into the seat next to me, while holding the keys in my hand and with the car key ready to be put in the ignition. Just imagine the rest and it's not pretty.

So, my eye has been hurting since yesterday (it's definitely on the mend), but I didn't go on the computer last night or today for more than a minute.

I will post tomorrow. Sorry.

Jesus bless!

POISON -- C.C. Deville and the Holy Spirit

Before I hit the pillow, I wanted to share something that a very informed little birdie told me last night. I was not going to share this because I don't reveal confidences, but I found that I had my head buried in the sand and it was actually posted on the internet, so it is not a confidence.

If anybody remembers the metal bands of the 80's (and many of you do), one band that comes to mind is POISON. It was one of the most popular groups then and still remains so. Metal music probably helped coin the phrase "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" so you know why I am thanking God for the fact that guitarist C.C. Deville of Poison surrendered his life to Christ! I can imagine the resounding sound of the saints still rejoicing in heaven!

The following is a post by Pete Wilson, the pastor of Cross Point Church in Nashville, on his blog at http://www.withoutwax.tv. (Yeah, I know it's from July, but then again I don't really listen to Poison so I wasn't searching for it -- get my drift).

POISON'S C.C. DEVILLE BECOMES A CHRISTIAN:

July 22, 2008

So Wednesday afternoon my friend, Derek Bruner from Cross Point, called me with the weirdest pastoral request I've ever gotten. He asked me if I would be willing to come down and go backstage at the Poison concert to meet with C.C. DeVille (their lead guitarist). Apparently C.C. has just become a Christian and was wondering if I would be willing to bring him some messages he could listen to on the road, as well as just encourage him, and answer a few questions.

I figured it wouldn't be a good idea to be hanging out backstage at a Poison concert without taking one of our elders, Brian Alexander. We had an awesome night. While I'm certainly going to keep the bulk of our conversations private, there were a few things I feel comfortable sharing.

This guy has an amazing heart. We spent some time with him pre-concert and before he went to get ready to go on stage he said, "Pete would you watch the show tonight and tell me if you see me do anything that would not be honoring to God." Are you kidding me????

After the concert we had a creative team meeting with him where we suggested a few different ways he could interweave the story of what God is doing in his life through his music. The entire experience was surreal, to say the least.

You can watch the video below to hear C.C. discuss such topics as cussing, elder meetings, accountability and guitar hero. It's almost six minutes long, but you won't be disappointed.

The unofficial pastor to Poison,

Pete Wilson also posted this video of his meeting with C.C. Deville on the road after a concert. Of what I know and have seen of C.C. in the past, I can see his tender heart for the Lord in this clip. WOOOHOOOO! Can I get a WHOOP, WHOOP!?

Happy New Year with Jason Michael Carroll -- and traveling with Bucky Covington

Hey all, did ya miss me? I'm sorry, but I just did not have a chance to get on the computer yesterday .... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I LITERALLY JUST WALKED THROUGH MY FRONT DOOR. My plane landed into a cold and icy place -- oh to be home :) I want to be back on vacation! (Thank you Lord for your traveling mercies).

First and foremost, have you been listening with "spiritual ears" to all the goings on regarding Hamas and Israel? We need to be fighting this battle on our knees as well as keeping watch for the return of our Lord because time is getting closer! Don't be fooled into complacency. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Pray that hearts all over the world become open to God's voice.
----------------

Since last night was New Year's Eve, I extended my stay in Atlanta in order to attend Jason Michael Carroll's concert. Jason Michael (JMC) played there last New Year's Eve as well, so I began last year and this year with him. (Special thanks to my friend Mary for again sharing NYE with me and for everything!! It was also great to see all of the HTF's that I know there -- Hugs to you all).

JMC always puts on a great show. He makes a great connection with the people in the crowd. At midnight he brings up his wife and shares the New Year celebration with her which is very special. If you know of JMC, you know that family is very important to him.

I am sure that many of JMC's fans won't be happy that he cut hair again, but it looks good. He had it shaped and blown, I don't think it can make a long ponytail anymore, but it will grow. (People are so much more than their hair or their outside costume).

Besides the songs that have topped the charts, JMC also performed several new ones that will be included on his next CD. You know I will be purchasing it!

One of new songs is "That's All I Know". Here is JMC performing it for a radio show recently.

A new song that really affected the crowd was called "Tears". Some people were crying because the lyrics hit close to home. It is a tender yet heartwrenching love story of a dad who's relationship with his daughter is limited due to divorce. JMC related to the song and you can tell he felt every word. Since the song is new, I was only able to find one video of JMC performing the song elsewhere (credit to tesswetzel). The bass in the video is loud so don't have your sound up to high (it gets better as the song goes on), but take a listen.

Side note: I vow to get a new camera because my old one just does not catch the shot and I was positioned right in front of the microphone. I do have a number of pictures on my new phone and was able to take videos on the phone too! (how cool is that!) I will do all that tomorrow sometime. I know you can't wait to see JMC's hair so I am posting one picture that actually was more than an elbow!

A friend of mine says that most people don't care about the band who backs the headlining singers. I can say that is probably true for general public, but it is not true for true fans of the artist. So, that being said, I will share some things about some of JMC's band.
First, it was great to see Trey Hill again filling in for JMC's guitarist. I got a chance to talk to him and he is a busy, busy, man these days. He knows I keep him in my prayers so God can use him. I also pray that Trey has strenghth and "runs the good race".
Timmy Galloway, guitar player, came out with a new "Timmy" style and I didn't even realize it was him at first! A little scruff and seems to have a new wardrobe or way of putting it together -- kinda "hip" (yeah, I'm old school on occasion). He is still the same precious guy. (He saw me standing there while everyone was talking to him and leaned over and gave me a hug -- what a sweetheart).
Also part of the JMC band are Jason Eller (so many Jason's LOL) on keyboards and Shaun Smith on guitar.
Filling in on drums was Josh Turner's drummer -- oh geez, I forgot his name -- if anyone knows, let me know.

Bucky Covington is good at connecting with his fans through videos (usually with a comedic theme). He just posted part one of his travel adventure to give us a glimpse of what he and the band experience as they travel to the next venue location to perform. I guess it's a good thing that Bucky's usual mode of transportation is his tour bus (which means he gets to play X-Box and relax a bit so he isn't always stressed).

Enjoy part one of the video. You will see some of his band members in it (others are behind the camera). LOL you will see Ducky most likely was trying to call his precious wife (not a pizza order LOL). If you do not know how to tell Bucky and Rocky (twins) apart, Rocky has his hair down for part of the video. I will post part two when it emerges. Enjoy.
